Cross-country skiing in Davos Klosters

Out the door and onto the trail: That's the motto of the cross-country skiers staying at Hotel Waldhuus. The chalet-style hotel is located directly along the freely usable Davos cross-country ski trail network and right next to the floodlit nighttime cross-country trail. By the way: The cross-country skiing season in Davos already starts around the end of October – thanks to the snow-farming trail at Flüela Valley. In spring, the cross-country trail network can be used until after Easter.

After a wonderful day on cross-country skis, you can relax in one of our cosy rooms and suites or during a visit to the spa.

Good to know: Waldhuus guests benefit from up to 20% discount on rental material at the cross-country ski schools!

Cross-country ski trail network

When you go cross-country skiing on the FIS race tracks in Flüela Valley, you’ll follow in the tracks of cross-country skiing greats such as Dario Cologna. On over 100 kilometres of trails for classic cross-country skiing and 76 kilometres of skating trails, you can explore Landwasser Valley, Sertig Valley, Dischma Valley and Flüela Valley. Meditative hours in pristine nature are waiting for you. In the middle of forests and along brooks, you can discover the beauty of Davos’ winter world on your skis.

Snowfarming Davos

Snow-farming is a technique whereby snow is preserved during the summer months so that it can be used in autumn for the creation of cross-country trails and ski runs. For this purpose, snow is piled up in spring and covered with sawdust. Over the course of the summer months and until autumn, 70 to 80 percent of the snow’s volume is retained. Thanks to this technique, cross-country ski trails can be created and used even before the season’s first snowfall. This allows for an earlier start to the cross-country skiing season, regardless of the prevailing weather conditions.
